INSTRUCTION:

FIND OUT THE QUANTITY OF WATER (LITERS) THAT COMES OUT OF THE FAUCET DURING A PERIOD OF TIMES.(CUPS,QUARTS,AND PINTS)

1. To perform the measuring, use a contaner that shows the volume it can hold (a bottle of soda, or a milk box) and put it in the sink. Let the water running by 30 seconds. Observe the quantity of water, and multiply it by 2. the result will be the water flow spent avery minute.

 a. What is the measurment of the water flow? continue your experience in the bathroom, which is responsible for 65%- 70% of the spending of the water in our homes.

 b. How much time do you spend while taking a shower?

 c. How many times a day you do that?

 d. How many time in a week do you take a shower?

 e. Propose two world problems.

ANSWERS:

a. The measurement is 660 ml.

b. I spend 10 minutes while i'm taking a shower.

c. I take a shower 3 times a day.

d. I take 21 showers a week because if the week is of 7 days and I take 3 showers a day I multiply 3x7=21!!

e......

The receipts of the water are very spensive. How can we lower our water receipts? Triying to conserve and use less water each day.
Sometimes water cuts when I open it. How can that problem be resolved?

2. In the bathroom, using the toilet is an activity that consumes a lot of water. Every time we flush the toilet we spend between 10 and 15 liters, depending on the capacity of the instrument. Think about the "flushing frequency" along 1 day.

a. How many times do you flush the toilet in 24 hours? Finally, we will include two activities about our cleanliness that we do everyday: brushing our teeth and washing our hands.

b. How long does it take to brush your teeth? How much water do you spend?

c. How many times a day you brush your teeth?

d. How long does it take to wash your hands? How much water do you spend?

                                  ANSWERS!!

a. I flush the toilet 4 times in 24 hours.

b.  It takes 3 minutes to brush my teeth. If 30 sec.= 660 ml so I multiply 660x6=3.960 ml so that is the amount of water I spend brushing my teeth.

c. I brush my teeth 3 times in 1 day. So the amount of water I spend a day brushing my teeth would be the triple of the amount of water I spend when I brush my teeth 1 time. So it would be 3.960x3=11.880 ml...!!

d. I take just a minute to wash my hands. If 30 sec=660 ml so I multiply 660x2=1.320 ml so that's the amount of water I spend washing my hands.

                                           ESTIMATE.

Use the information you have found in the experience, and calculate the amount of water that is being spent with those activities.

1. How much water do you spend a day? Write in liters and gallons.

2. How much water do you spend a month? Write in liters and gallons.

                                        ANSWERS!!

Operations:

1.320x 4= 5.280 (I wash 4 times my hands, so 5.280 ml is the amount of water I spend in a day washing my hands.)

       11.880 ml

        5.280 ml

17.160  ml (Brushing my teeth and hands.)

 17.160 ml= 17 liters and 160 ml

17 (Brushing my teeth and hands)

+ 40 (40 Liters I spend a day everytime I flush the toilet).

  57 liters plus 160 ml.

1 gallon= 1000 liters.

So like there are not more or 1000 liters there is not a gallon.

A// In a day I spend 57 liters and 160 ml of water in the 3 activities that I named. But there are no gallons because there are only 57 liters plus 160 ml and for complete a gallon we need 1000 liters.

2.

    57                        160

 x 30                     x   30

   00                        000

+ 171                   + 480 ml

1.710 liters  plus 480 ml.

1 gal= 1000 liters

1710 liters plus 480 ml= 1 gallon 710 liters and 480 ml.

A// In a month I spend 1.710 liters and 480 ml of water in the 3 activities I named. Theres 1 gallon 710 liters and 480 ml.
